700 Hobo Names: A New Thanksgiving Tradition!

John Hodgman is best known as a reporter for The Daily Show and as the PC in the cute PC vs. Mac TV ads. Before all this, he wrote a funny book called Areas of My Expertise. One of the chapters listed 700 hobo names. This formed the basis of a performance of him reading the names with guitar accompaniment by Jonathan Coulton. Here's the recording.

Just when you thought this story couldn't get any weirder...
A group of artists took it upon themselves to create illustrations for all 700 hoboes. Find them here.

Tinariwen Blew Our Minds

Tuareg group Tinariwen played the Boulder Theater last night. They're from Mali, deep in the southern Sahara. We've been fans of theirs for a few years, but nothing prepared us for the experience of seeing them live. A lot of our friends were there and everyone I talked with said the same thing: "What the hell are these guys doing in Boulder?" I can safely say it was the best concert I've ever been to. The only thing missing was being able to understand the words to their songs, which tend to be about nomadic life and the struggles of the Tuareg people.

Here's a little clip to give you a feel.
